Anton Danyluk: 'Most of my co-stars wish they'd never done Love Island'
Anton Danyluk admits his ego got the better of him after finding fame and reveals his fellow Islanders regret signing up to the show
He was a fan favourite after his stint on Love Island 2019 – but for Anton Danyluk, life after the villa had left him hating the person he'd become.
The Scottish fitness fanatic, 25, tells Closer that a celebrity lifestyle and inflated ego resulted in him turning into someone he didn't recognise.
And it wasn't until his mum, Sherie Ann – who was herself a hit with viewers, after Anton revealed she shaved his bum for him in his opening video – put him back in his place that he realised how big-headed he'd been.
Anton says, "When I came out of the show, people were blowing smoke up my arse. They were saying, 'You're brilliant, you were fantastic, you were amazing.' And I started believing it. I got set on certain plans for the future. I was on a PA tour as soon as I came out and I was away for about three months. Because I was in hotels, everything was done for you.
"When I came back, I had dinner with my mum and I just left my plate out and walked from the table. She looked at me and went, 'What the f * * * are you doing? You aren't a celebrity in this house. Wash up after yourself.' And she was right. So she got my head back in check and has kept me grounded. The bottom line is I'm not suddenly a superstar – I was on TV once."
After months of partying and revelling in his new-found fame, Anton made the decision to take a look at himself and get back to who he was before the show. He quit alcohol in December and threw himself back into work – running fitness company The Ranch Fitness Retreat, which he founded, in Scotland.
He also took a break from social media, after being consumed by the world of Instagram and social media stardom.

He says, "I was addicted to my phone. My mum would be talking to me and I'd be scrolling aimlessly. So I took a look at myself and decided to take a week off it. I planned to be off for a week, but it ended up being six weeks. And during the break, I felt content, so I limit myself now.
"I came out with a million followers. But how many of those people following me would be there for me if I needed them? I'm very grateful for my time on Love Island and I'd never bite the hands that fed me, but I want people to see it isn't all it seems."
Anton was one of the original Islanders to enter the villa – and while he was unlucky in love with Lucie Donlan, Molly Mae Hague and Elma Pazar, he formed tight-knit bromances with the likes of Tommy Fury, Curtis Pritchard and Michael Griffiths.
Anton found love with Belle on Love Island but it was not to last

He eventually found love with Belle Hassan and ended up coming fifth – but the pair split five weeks after leaving the show.
Earlier this year, Anton revealed he thought the Love Island bubble can result in friendships and romances that are an "illusion" – and he now blames fame for changing people.
He famously had an on-screen falling out with Molly Mae, two weeks into the show, when she kept her options open in the villa. Anton then unfollowed her on Instagram after leaving. He later said, "She's a lovely girl but just not my type of person. We just never clicked and she didn't like it after I put her in her place."

He says, "You come out thinking you've got friends for life, but you're a different person. People change. People see it as a competition, it gets competitive, they get bitter and it becomes horrible.
"I've had it pretty good. But I'd hate for someone to think, 'I'm going to go down that route because life will be easy after that.' It isn't. There are great perks, but many of the people who went on Love Island in my season wish they'd never done it.
"It's not Love Island's fault – they tell you, when you go in, don't expect anything other than a holiday. It's us who hype it up in our heads and believe that we're going to come out as superstars."
